I am trying to get started with this but I am not sure what order to do things in.

This article (below) says to run these commands

[UPDATED] Tutorial 2 | Make a PPP internet connection with Sixfab GPRS Shield on Raspberry Pi

However there is another article which says I should run minicom8 and change the serial device to /dev/tty8 to /dev/serial0

But… if I change it to serial0 and then exit it says

minicom: cannot open /dev/serial0: No such file or directory

We recommend to use USB for Raspberry Pi 3G-4G/LTE Base Shield v2. You will need to select ttyUSB3.

If you still want to use UART, then there is a UART resistor port to be soldered below the shield.

“If you still want to use UART, then there is a UART resistor port to be soldered below the shield.” … So, I only need to make two connections on bottom of the board? Or I need to make connection with some sort of actual resistors?

You can just bridge the connections.
